The Hydraulic Institute plays a leading role in the development of pump standards in North America and worldwide. HI standards are developed within guidelines established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). HI members work through a number of technical committees to develop draft standards. The Institute uses the ANSI Canvass Method, involving pump users and other interested parties to reach consensus on published standards. HI standards are developed to define pump products, installation, operation, performance, testing, and pump life and quality. ANSI/HI standards are widely referenced in other standards such as those of API, AWWA, ANSI B73, and more are accepted throughout North America and applied worldwide.

Formed in 1928, the Water Environment Federation (WEF) is a not-for-profit technical and educational organization with 35,000 individual members and 81 affiliated Member Associations representing an additional 50,000 water quality professionals throughout the world. WEF and its member associations proudly work to achieve our mission of preserving and enhancing the global water environment.
WEF and its members research and publish the latest information on wastewater treatment and water quality protection;
provide technical expertise and training on issues including non-point source pollution, hazardous waste, residuals management, and groundwater;
sponsor conferences and other special events around the world;
review, testify, and comment on environmental regulations and legislation.

Founded in 1976, the association's primary focus is on industry guidelines, education and promotion.
