As the COVID-19 pandemic reaps health and economic havoc across the globe, I am reminded of how fortunate I am to be part of an organization that is standing up for our associates and customers in this time of great challenge.
First and foremost, the priority is the safety and well-being of our associates. As part of the larger Crane global organization, we have the benefit of learning from the experiences of our vast network of production facilities, including our China-based businesses that endured the height of their pandemic several weeks ago. With these learnings, we have made many changes to the way we operate to protect our associates. Also, where possible, our team is working from the seclusion of their homes. Even after taking these precautions, we have associates that are being impacted in ways never imagined, and in this case, Crane is providing financial assistance above and beyond their locally available social net.
Second, like many other businesses across Crane, Crane Pumps & Systems is heading the call of our Customers to continue producing essential products used in a wide variety of critical applications such as water and wastewater infrastructure, sanitization equipment used in key medical applications, and pumps used in the USA military’s defense industrial base.
Finally, despite these challenges, Crane recognizes that a pandemic doesn’t lessen the need to support our local communities. Although volunteer efforts may be hampered by the need to social distance, we found new ways to assist, including a donation of medical supplies to our local health care system.
This is an extremely stressful time for all of us and our families, and it is expected to get worse before it gets better. But as Martin Luther King said during a sermon in 1963 “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy”. I am proud to be part of a company that thrives in moments like these; we are certainly up for the challenge.
I personally thank you for your patience with this rapidly changing situation in our work and home life. Please do not hesitate to contact me, Human Resources or your manager with questions because I know it is hard to keep up with the developments as it relates to Coronavirus. l will continue to update you and do my best to keep you informed.
President, Crane Pumps & Systems
