  • Richard Teller Crane founder
    Founded in 1855, Crane Co. has had an unwavering commitment to the ideals of its founder, Richard Teller Crane, resulting in innovations to drive the American Industrial Revolution and guiding Crane’s actions and investments for over 150 years.
  • Weinman brand founded in 1860
    Founded in 1860 in Columbus, Ohio, Weinman entered the pump industry as a manufacturer of steam driven piston pumps. Weinman was the first manufacturer in the United States to develop End Suction and Split Case pumps in 1913 and 1930, respectively.
  • Deming 1880
    Originated in 1854 by Levi Dole & Albert Silver, the formerly named “Silver Company” produced cistern, pitcher, windmill, rotary and boiler feed pumps. In 1874, Walter F Deming joined the Silver Company as Secretary and partner and the first Deming pump model was produced in 1880.
  • Barnes founded 1895
    Barnes Manufacturing Company was founded in 1895 in Mansfield, Ohio by Thomas R. Barnes. During the first quarter of the century, Barnes was a market leader in hand pump manufacturing which resulted in several pump patents and the distribution of over 3 million hand pumps.
  • Burks founded 1914
    Originally founded in 1914 as Decatur Pumps located in Decatur, IL, the initial Burks product line featured a range of Centrifugal and Turbine pumps designed for circulation, pressure boosting, condensate return, and general industrial service for both industrial and residential well applications.
  • Barnes founded 1895
    In the late 1920’s, Barnes patented a self-priming pump which made it practical to operate a portable pump in the construction industry without the time delay and effort of repriming. This was the first patent for this application.
  • Crown founded 1929
    Founded in 1929 in Waterloo, Iowa, Crown product lines  historically included Centrifugal pumps and Self Priming trash and sewage pumps available in both engine-driven and electric motor-driven configurations.
  • Prosser founded 1942
    Initially founded in 1942, Prosser products historically included submersible Dewatering pumps used by utility companies to pump out an area before digging began, Damage Control pumps used as portable pumps on Navy vessels, Aerospace valves on helicopters and tanks, and exploding bolts.
  • In addition to producing pumps for WWII, Barnes converted manufacturing facilities to operations aiding the war effort. Crane was recognized in 1943 with the Army/Navy “E for Excellence” in war production. Less than 2% of production plants in America received this distinction.
  • Enpo
    Founded in 1946 in Piqua, OH, Piqua Machine and Manufacturing specialized in 56 Frame Motors. In 1948, the company introduced the original 1/3 HP 1-1/4″ discharge submersible pump. The company later trademarked “Enpo” for Engineered Power.
  • Crane acquires Deming in 1962
    In 1961, Crane Co. acquired the Deming Pump Company located in Salem, OH.
  • Crane acquires Burks, Prosser, Weinman, Crown and Barnes
    In 1993, Crane Co. acquired Burks, Prosser, Weinman, Crown, and Barnes pump brands from Harbor Group and renames as Crane Pumps & Systems, with office headquarters and manufacturing located in Piqua, OH. 
  • In 2008, Crane Pumps released the SH and Demersible Non-Clog portfolio, a line of submersible pumps designed using customer feedback to alleviate the most common pain points in wastewater applications. The Non-Clog line covers a performance range of flows up to 4000 GPM and heads up to 265 feet.

    In 2018, the SITHE and Deming Chopper pumps were developed to combat the frequent clogging in wastewater applications. Crane Chopper pumps solve clogging with a unique patented chopping technology that slices even the most troublesome solids in the waste stream.

Crane Pumps is proud to design, engineer, and manufacture products domestically in the small town of Piqua, Ohio. Crane has been a part of the Piqua community since 1965, providing job opportunities and philanthropic service to the surrounding area. With engineering, operations, customer service, and sales under the same roof, we are able to control the quality of our products and quickly and effectively service our customers.

CRANE GIVES BACK Crane Fund for Widows and Children

Each year, through the Crane Fund for Widows & Children, Crane Pumps and Systems employees have the opportunity to nominate charitable agencies that provide direct services to those in need. Last year, Crane Pumps & Systems, on behalf of Crane Fund for Widows & Children, presented donation checks to ten local 501(c)3 classified agencies, directly impacting the community in which CP&S employees live and work.
